Interfederal eHealth Action Plan 2026–2029

05 February 2026 | Country Update

The Interfederal eHealth Action Plan 2026–2029 defines Belgium’s digital health strategy for the period 2026–2029. Its aim is to support a sustainable and integrated eHealth ecosystem for prevention, well-being and healthcare by providing appropriate digital systems, tools and services. The core objective of this plan is to improve quality, continuity and safety of care through digitalization, innovation and empowerment of citizens, healthcare professionals and institutions. A central pillar is the continued development of the Belgian Integrated Health Record (BIHR), enabling interoperable data sharing, patient access to health information, reduced administrative burden and better collaboration across the care pathway, including cross-border data exchange within the EU. The BIHR aims to centralize currently fragmented health data into a single, integrated and user friendly environment accessible to all relevant actors.
